"Of Mice and Men" shows the fatal brutality of "Survival of the Fittest"

by Luka Haase

The popular book "Of Mice and Men" shows the brutal principle of "Survival of the Fittest" during the Great Depression and applies it to the everyday life of that time.

Most of the US Americans have read "Of Mice and Men" at least once in their lifetime. And most of them asked the question "but what is the message of book". This is what this article is about.

Most people think that the message is that you should know the difference between real and fake friendships. But this turns out to be just half of the message. You can't say that "Of Mice and Men" is not about friendships but you also can't say that it is only about friendships.

In fact it is also about the principle "Survival of the Fittest" which means that only the strongest survive.Yesterday our teacher told us about the themes of "Of Mice and Men" and I was surprised that the main theme isn't friendship but "Survival of the Fittest".

After thinking about it I absolutely agree with that because the main plot is about two friends being torn apart from each other which is caused by one of them being too weak.

Throughout the book you realize that Lennie, who is George's friend, is really strong but lacks intelligence. His bad actions got him and George in a lot of trouble. Due to one major bad action of Lennie George has to kill him. This implies one form of "Survival of the Fittest".
