So I think it had a big impact on the story, considering Simon was for all.

Simon was genuinely better than most of the boys. He wasn't a boss, but an actual leader. He looked out for everyone, even the Littluns. Everyone kinda regrets looking up too Ralph after Simon's tragic death. Simon. Had his hands out for the more vulnerable boys. Without Simon the boys go insane, as Ralph wants to attack Jack's tribe.

Like many others in my class, I did not see Simon being the one to die in all of this. I believed that he was respected on the island, and was a peaceful member of the group. However, I think he brought it upon himself because after learning that the beast was just a dead pilot; he proceeds to tell the rest of the group. The group, of course, would not believe in his words. The group truly wanted to believe that there was a beast on the island because they didn't want to face the fact that they are the beast. Afterwards, everyone finds reasons to justify the murder of Simon, but they all know what they did and they have to live with it. The only one that accepts the killing is Ralph, he understands that they just murdered one of their own. In the end, this is just the beginning of a long turn of events.

Simon's Death
When I read the part about Simon dying I was first very surprised and I felt kind of disappointed that he was died. Simon was a great kid and he was always helpful to others. I think it was unfair that he had to die like that.
R.i.p Simon
Simon's death was surprising. Simon was the one who did his own thing. He also provided the boys with important information. We all assumed that someone was going to die soon but i think know one expected it ti be him to die. I feel that the Savagery boys got very worked in the storm and was following the leader. I think Jack knew what he was doing but the boys didn't and was just going with it. It was a very sad unwanted death and everyone who reads this book will miss him.
The Unfair Death?
In chapter 9 of Lord of The Flies, one of the main characters dies. This would be Simon. Simon had the most odd experience and had discovered the beast. Simon was the key to getting rid of the beast. Yet, in the dark and within the savagery of the boys, Simon was murdered in cold blood. I feel as of Simon was unfairly murdered. The key to the beast was murdered being thought of as the beast.
Chapter 6 response- symbolism by Erika Webb 2017
The Beast is only fear within the boys

Readers know that the parachute man won't harm anyone and it makes the boys seem foolish. Think about it, if you were on an island alone wouldn't you fear what was going on around you? I would. The parachute man isn't the beast, or the problem, the boys are. They fear and it drives them nuts. Some are even driven to fight one another. Fear is their biggest issue on the island.
Goodbye Simon
Simon's death really stunned me. I had a feeling that eventually someone would end up being killed but I did not expect it to be Simon. He was head strong and had will power. He was the only one really helping the boys and showing them that he had cared. The boys clearly did not care about Simon anymore. Not only that the boys just stopped caring about each other. Killing seemed to make them happy in some way. It was just a satisfaction.

A response to Simon's death
In chapter 9, the savage side of all the kids on the island showed their true colors. This is when the book took a major turn in events.
Simon's death was caused by a thirst for blood by every kid stranded on that island, excluding Piggy and Ralph. To me, this symbolized what would happen to society if people would do whatever pleased them at any time they wanted.
Think about it, what if 320 million people in the United States did whatever they wanted whenever they wanted to. It would be chaos and our way of life that we know it as would decay very quickly, don't you think?
I think people on the island started to do whatever they pleased and that, in turn, lead to the brutal murder of Simon. The same that if people in our society did that, it would lead to very bad consequences to our society.

Simon's Death Response
In Chapter 9 in Lord of The Flies Simon awakens confused and staggers towards the mountain in fear, he makes his way up the mountain and sees a pilot and a flapping parachute, he realizes that him and the other have mistaken him for the beast. Anxious to tell the other that the beast is not real he makes his way towards the light of the fire coming from the beach.
At the beach Piggy and Ralph are having a feast, during the feast Jack expands their invitation to all of Ralph's followers by asking them to join his tribe. Most of them accepted. Ralph try's to convince his followers out of it by asking Jack how he plans on making shelter from the storm considering he hasn't made any shelters yet, Jack then ordered his tribe to start dancing.
While dancing the boys see a shadowy figure make its way out of the forest, which is Simon. The boys caught up in their dance did not recognize the figure and thought that he was the beast. The boys attack Simon and tear them apart with their hands and feet, Simon tries explaining to them what has happened and to remain calm but the boys do not realize and are caught up in the action and in fear and end up killing Simon.

LOTF Chapter 5 Plot: 3rd response
Ralph paces the beach, planning what he’ll say at the meeting and wishing he could think as well as Piggy can. Finally, he blows the conch. The boys gather around and listen to Ralph. Ralph explains that the meeting is about setting things straight, it was a very serious discussion. Ralph pointed out all of the things the boys said they would do but didn’t, like storing water, building shelters, and keeping the signal fire going. He said the fire is the most important thing on the island. Jack stands up and reaches for the conch so he can have a turn to talk, but Ralph refuses to hand it to him so Jack sits back down. Ralph noticed that people were beginning to become afraid. Ralph doesn’t know why, but he feels like they should talk about their fears to be able to overcome them.

“Maybe there is a beast… maybe it's only us.” Pg 125. This is just a little snip of dialogue from Chapter 5. Piggy states something along these lines to Ralph, and he truly believes that the beast might actually be them. As the story progresses, division in the group becomes worse and worse. Ralph and Piggy attempt to strengthen unity, but to no prevail; while Jack waits for his moment to take leadership.
All of this shows that the beast is something to cover up the fact that they are the living embodiment of the beast. That inner savagery begins to rise from the depths of every boy on the island, and controls how they think and act. In the end, these chapters are a good leading point for the ultimate climax of the story.

Chapter 5/6 Response
Marisa Montgomery
Period 6
Symbolism Response
In chapter six, the boys are frightened because there is supposedly a beast on the mountain. From the beginning, Simon doesn't buy it. He imagines "a picture of a human, at once heroic and sick". Simon is very thoughtful and wise, as well as the symbol for wisdom, religion, and goodness. This is not the first time Simon has suggested that there is nothing to be afraid of on the island but the boys themselves. During the meeting in chapter five, Simon suggested, "What I mean is... maybe it's only us." Once again in chapter six, Simon is wise in his suggestion that the beast is human.
Perhaps the dead body on the parachute is a symbol for the boys. This body is supposedly the beast, yet it is only human. Just as the boys are only human and were once heroic, like Simon had
suggested. The boys are all a bit, if not a lot, frightened of this beast on the mountain. However, they are all scared of a mere human being. The only thing to be afraid of is a human, and that is what they are. They might have more beast in them than any pig or creature that they can come up with.

Chapter 5 Response: Theme
“The rules!” shouted Ralph. “You’re breaking the rules!”
“Who cares?”
Ralph summoned his wits. “Because the rules are the only thing we’ve got!” This chapter really shows how the boys have been treating the island and how what their priorities are. The boys are starting to realize it's easier to not have responsibilities and do what they want. Ralph really thinks about what needs to be said and what they need to do. Ralph understands that as chief he must keep the island going smoothly. He desperately wants to be rescued while Jack and some of the others want to have fun. They have fun by hunting and killing.
Ralph calls the assembly to bring order and organization to the boys again. He discusses the fire, shelters, using the bathroom, and the fear of the "beast". The boys express their different opinions and some like Jack don't think rules are important. Ralph says that rules are all that they have and it's all that is holding them together.
I believe the theme of this chapter is the priorities and objectives they are trying to achieve and how the boys will react to it. They must understand what needs to take place to have a functioning and endurable environment to live in. At the end of the chapter you're left wondering if the boys destroy themselves or pick themselves back up.
LOTF Character: Response to Simon's Death
I believe that the boys on the island are slowly changing and different sides of them are coming out. The author begins to call the boys savages. Jack and his tribe paint their face to hide who they used to be. I cannot for sure say that the people that we saw in the beginning of the book are their true selves. The paint on their faces disguises the boys on the inside and outside. A new person comes out with no shame, no heart, and the desire to kill. I have a hard time determining if everyone has the desire to be a savage and an undisciplined individual. Everyone has the ability and I do believe that no one is absolutely pure and everyone can be cruel in some way.
I believe society tells us what is right and wrong. We may want to do what we want, but instead we make ourselves do what is needed and what's "right". The difference is the boys have been forced in a society with individuals who are programmed to do whatever they want. They have tried to discipline themselves, but it's very easy to not be responsible.
Simon, Piggy and Ralph seem to be the most responsible so far. However, sometimes even Ralph has the urge to hurt and kill. The boys or savages remind me of hungry animals that are beginning to become aggressive. Simon never was listened to or thought of in the group. He was a quiet but intelligent person. He helped the children and gave them fruit often. He also went to his own secret place frequently. He witnessed the boys skewer the sow's head onto the stick. Simon was stuck in some sort of trance, he didn't want to participate with them.
In the end, the boys animal like presence came out of them. They let their other selves take control and they murdered Simon. Simon has no intention of harming them and didn't realize he was in immediate danger.

Chapter 5/6 Response
Chapter Response: Chapter 5
Plot: Beast From Water
Quote: “Maybe,” he said hesitantly, “maybe there is a beast.”
Analysis: This chapter is about a meeting negotiating about the beast. They bring the children who supposedly saw the beast to speak about what they saw. Nobody has a very specific description and chaos breaks out when people start talking about how scary it was.
Even Simon says that he believes there might be a beast. Some speculate that it came from the water while others believe that it is a ghost. Every time the beast was mentioned chaos broke out and Ralph had to try and bring order.
Eventually, while Piggy was talking about the beast, Jack began speaking out. He challenges Ralph's authority and says that he favors Piggy over the others. Jack and his hunters storm off and begin chanting on the beach.
Chapter 5
There were sniggers here and there and swift glances.
"Now people seem to use anywhere. Even near the shelters and the platform. You littluns, when you're getting fruit, if you're taken short----"
The assembly roared.
"I said if you're taken short you keep away from the fruit. That's dirty!"
Laughter rose again.
"I said that's dirty!"
He plucked at his stiff, grey shirt.
"That's really dirty. If you're taken short you go right along the beach to the rocks. See?" ( Pg 80 )

Simon's Death Was Not Necessary- Erika Webb

Simon's death could and should have been avoided. The boys worry so much about killing rather than the well being of themselves and their peers. Simon went to that mountain to face the beast for the sake of the other boys. He'd found the answers and then got killed. The boys should have slowed down and heard Simon out before getting caught up in the moment and killing him. Simon shouldn't have died.
The Death of Simon
Simon's death was definitely a very iconic event in this novel. Simon was a very inspirational person to the boys. He was the person that was like the realistic leader. Ralph was appointed the leader, but Simon was the leader who had more accuracy of being a leader. Simon was the only way the boys ever had hope, because Simon always had hope they would be found and that things would be okay and he encouraged that feeling to be felt by the rest of the boys. I don't think the author of this book should have killed Simon because I feel like Simon was a very crucial character in this book.
Simon's Ending
Simon's death was tragic. My jaw dropped as Mr. Hollister read it. I think the boys have turned into savages, and that are blood thirsty. Simon was very unlucky. When staggered into the circle, the other boys saw their opportunity for blood. At the point, the boys weren't caring what they were killing as long as they were.
They boys started not to care about each other. They were caring more about the blood, the gore. They wanted to kill. To them, that's what felt good, and what made them happy. They no longer caring about Simon. The cared about adding to their addiction, which was death. The brutally murdered their friend, and it didn't phase them. They showed no sad emotion. They were happy with their kill. They were happy.
Simon's Death
I feel that Simon's death was very interesting and I don't think that the author should have killed Simon. Simon climbs to the top of the mountain and he is looking at the great beast because a pig head told him to. He discovers that it isn't a monster and that it is just a human, he has to go tell the other kids. He stumbles down the mountain to go tell them. Meanwhile the other kids are practically feuding over who is the leader and they are chanting about killing pigs. They are gathered around the fire and they started chanting and they got caught up in the moment. Simon comes through and they think he is a pig and they attack him. They stab him and hit him and bite him because they think he is a pig or the beast. Simon ends up dying and they float him out on the water and let it drag him away.
The Death of Simon
Simon was always one to help out, proven by him being one of the few to work on the huts while the majority of the children were out playing on the beach. He was also one of Jack's followers. When they went on one of their hunting trips Simon was there. They found a sow which was lying down with her piglets and they decide to kill it (which was very wreckless). They launched their spears and landed plenty of hits on it. They began chasing it until they found it in a clearing, to weak to run. They began stabbing it more times until Jack cut it's throats and it died. They decapitated the pig and left its head on a pike wedged into a rock. Simon falls behind because he hears voices. He begins talking to the lord of the flies which had taken refuge in the pig's head. His head begins to throb and his nose begins to bleed then he goes unconscious. When he awakes he climbs the mountain. He examines the "beast" and sees it is only a dead pilot so he ventures down the mountain to the party to tell the others. The parachute carries the pilot away, never to be seen again. Once he arrives at the party they are doing their ritual. Simon gets caught in the middle. They continue chanting "Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood!". They begin stabbing him. They are like savages and push him further down the beach. Once killed, his body floats out to sea never to be found.

R.I.P. Simon
Marisa Montgomery
6th Period
Response to Simon's Death
It seems to me that the death of Simon was the death of any goodness or religion the boys had on the island. This isn't just the death of Simon, it's the death of each and every one of their souls. Simon was the religious figure on the island. The littluns looked up to him because he helped them and fed them fruit. When the boys killed Simon, they lost all hope of being good. The only thing left on the island now is evil.
From the very beginning, Jack has primarily been the one to want to have 'fun'. He let the signal fire go out so that they could go kill a pig. He continuously chooses killing over being rescued. Now that Jack has separated himself from Ralph, Piggy, and Samneric, the other boys paint and garland him like an idol. After Simon is killed, there is no longer a representation for good. Jack is treated like an 'idol' and he is the only role model they have left.
Shortly before his death, Simon had a hallucination and was seemingly talking to 'The Lord of the Flies', which is the head of the dead sow on a stick. The Lord of the Flies said to Simon, "Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill!" "You knew didn't you? I'm part of you? Close, close, close! I'm the reason why it's no go? Why things are what they are?"
Just like Simon had suggested at the meeting, there was nothing to be afraid of on the island but the boys themselves. They all have evil in them, they are the beast. Just as the dead sow said to Simon in his hallucination, this is why things are the way they are on the island. This is why they can't go home. The evil inside of them is overpowering and that is why they care very little about escaping the island. They enjoy being savages. That's what they have become. The beast isn't something they can kill, because it's in all of them. The boys have transformed into 'the Beast' and killed the last silver of goodness they had left.
When Simon was coming to them as they were chanting, he was only trying to give them the information they needed to not be scared anymore. They killed the thing that would stop their fear. That might help them get a little closer to making it home. They killed hope, wisdom, and goodness and in turn chose fear, evil, and darkness.
The weather mirrors what is going on around them. It is a rainy thunderstorm. All the light has left the sky, just like the goodness has left the island now that Simon is gone. This is the point of no return.

The plot summary of 3/4
The whole plot of the story is beginning to unfold. You are starting to see how these kids are under the influence of the island. The kids are starting to become more barbaric while being on this island. They boys showed up on the island completely sane and shaped by the previous society. The plot seemed to be these boys on an island that were very differnent and made what they had work. All of this humane. The plot progresses to show that they can not handle these things by themselves and they fall under certain archetypes which show strong and conflict with the others. This is also the reason for some of the problems on the island.
In the following paragraph show the conflict between jack and ralph which is an example of how conflicts are affecting the plot.
“ ”You wouldn’t care to help with the shelters, I suppose?” “We want meat—”
“And we don’t get it.”
Now the antagonism was audible.
“But I shall! Next time! I’ve got to get a barb on this spear! We wounded a pig and the spear fell out. If we could only make barbs— ”
